Sean Burrows Takes Limited Division At 2022 SureFire World Multigun Championship
Cody, WY – The 2022 competition shooting season for our lead instructors is shaping up to be another great one. Alysia Burrows kicked off the year with a win at SMM3G, and last weekend, Sean Burrows finished first in Limited Division at the 2022 SureFire World Multigun Championship at the renowned Cody Shooting Complex in Cody, WY.
The event took place on July 23 & 24 comprising of 10 multigun stages including two night stages. While initially set to be held at the Cameo Shooting & Education Complex near Grand Junction, CO, recent political attention to the area from other competition events earlier this year caused a venue change just two months prior.
Competition was stiff and fierce as top shooters from all over contended across a diverse set of practical shooting challenges the match is known to present. The annual match has been running since 2014, and incorporates all current styles of 3-gun to one plaice including: speed stages similar to UML Expedition Multigun matches, bay style stages found at USPSA Multigun Nationals, big outlaw style natural terrain stages, there are always a couple of night stages.
In addition to putting on another top level event, the United Shooting Sports Leagues (USSL) introduced a new shooting division to their diverse offering of competition flavors as well. The new Recreational Division was designed to provide new shooters with national level match experience without the pressure and restrictions the pros face.
Burrows found an opportunity to expose his oldest son to the sport he loves, “When else would a new shooter get a chance to experience a national level match? This is an unparalleled training opportunity that new shooters can’t get in a class / instructor format. I was frankly blown away at the rapid performance progress my son made in his shooting abilities over two days.”
The new Recreational Division allows new shooters to register for the same event at a reduced entry fee and compete in the same squad as top performing professionals on the same challenging courses of fire. This allows newcomers to observe and interact with the best in the game and put their own skills to the test at the same time. The difference? They aren’t shooting for score. There is no league membership required, and there are no trophies at the end, but the experience is something USSL hopes will translate into more competitors attending matches in the future.
“I get to teach my son a lot, but how often does one get to learn from seasoned pros like Barry Dueck, Craig Outzen, and Cody Leeper; in real time? This is a really unique opportunity I hope more shooters that are serious about training take advantage of at future matches. For me as a father, instructor, and competitive shooter that was the real win; seeing my boy learn the sport and start to perform at a level that pleasantly surprised all of us.”
